One Month Left to Apply for USCIS Citizenship Grant

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is currently accepting applications for its Citizenship and Integration Grant Program that is awarding organizations throughout the U.S. grant money to develop and run citizenship-related programs. This Grant Program reportedly has a total of $10 million to hand out and will be accepting applications for the 2014 fiscal year (FY2014) through May 16, giving both for-profit and non-profit organizations about one more month to submit applications for these free funds. An estimated 40 grants will be handed out to qualifying applicants, and the awards will be announced in September 2014.

According to the USCIS press release, this Citizenship and Integration Grant Program has the mission to promote access to high-quality citizenship preparation services, including services that help people submit their applications to the USCIS, that help applicants prepare for their citizenship interviews and tests, etc.

Over the past five years, this program has reportedly given out 182 grants totaling more than $33 million towards helping people become U.S. citizens. The USCIS estimates that these grants have effectively helped more than 78,000 people become permanent residents of the U.S.
